    Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is a branch of cellular pathology and specialists in this field provide reports on tissue biopsies and surgical resection material. These specialists are concerned with the diagnosis and assessment of disease in the head and neck, particularly the oral and maxillofacial region. This specialty also fulfils a healthcare need which is not met by other branches of dentistry and medical pathology.

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists support primary care dentists, specialist dentists (particularly, but not limited to, Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery) and medical specialties which interface with the Oral and Maxillofacial region. The specialty contributes to the research education and training by providing a framework for quality improvement and discovery, including pathology support to fundamental science, translational research, and clinical trials.

The next curriculum will take effect for all new specialty trainees by September 2024.
