Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) involve the process of identifying, analysing and minimising risks with the processing of personal data from any new project or service.
A DPIA can reduce the risks of harm to individuals through the misuse of their personal information. It can also help us to design more efficient and effective processes for processing personal data.
DPIAs help us decide how a particular project, process or system may affect the privacy of the individual, which are designed to enable an assessment before new services or new data processing/sharing systems being introduced. This allows us to introduce safeguards to mitigate any risks identified by a DPIA to individuals’ personal data.
Here you can read DPIAs from some of the GDC’s larger projects which involved the processing of personal data.
