    Periodontics

Periodontology is the study of the tissues (gums) which support the teeth and dental implants, as well as the awareness of the associations and interactions between periodontal diseases and systemic conditions (such as diabetes).

Periodontal health is a major component of overall health and wellbeing.

Periodontics includes the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the gums, the replacement of lost teeth by implantation of natural and/or synthetic devices and the reconstruction of lost tissues (hard and soft) by regeneration or repair.

Specialists may use collaboration with other specialties in both an outpatient and primary dental practice backdrop.

The next curriculum will take effect for all new specialty trainees by September 2024.

The current curriculum can be found here.
