2020 Registration and Fitness to Practise statistical reports published

Today we published our annual Registration and Fitness to Practise (FtP) statistical reports that supplement the Registration and FtP data provided in our Annual Report and Accounts 2020.

The Registration Statistical Report 2020 provides information on a range of issues relating to registration, including the total number of registrants as of 31 December 2020, the composition of the register by titles, and the equality and diversity profile of the register, including the composition of the register by gender and ethnicity. It also includes annual statistics relating to additions and removals, and the reasons for these changes.

The Fitness to Practise Statistical Report 2020 provides a quantitative picture of our FtP performance in 2020, including a range of statistics relating to the number of concerns received, who they were from, how cases were processed, and the breakdown of outcomes following FtP hearings. The report also provides an FtP ‘considerations’ profile which is a high-level summary of the allegations raised within a hearing in 2020.

The report shows that for every 100 concerns received in 2020, 37 were assessed by a case examiner– the first stage at which a sanction may be imposed on a dental professional. Of these, only 15 progressed to a Practice Committee. The reports also reveals a year-on-year decrease in the number of concerns raised by dental professionals, from 13% to 10%.

You can find the reports on our Registration reports page and our Fitness to practise learning page.
