Approved posts

Below is a list of posts acceptable for temporary registration and what documentation will be required to support your application:
 
Senior house officer (SHO) 

A letter from the relevant postgraduate deanery confirming the post is suitable for training.  A list of postgraduate deaneries can be found on the Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans and Directors (COPDEND) website.

Tier 5 training post
These posts are organised by the National Advice Centre for Postgraduate Education (NACPDE) so you must confirm with them first that they approve your post before you submit your application to us.
 
Specialist registrar 
A letter from the relevant postgraduate deanery which should confirm your training number and the start and end dates of the specialist training.
 
Specialist registrar locum appointment for training (LAT) 
A letter from the relevant postgraduate deanery confirming that the post is recognised for the purposes of training and the start and end dates of the post.
 
Army/Navy personnel exchange programme 
A letter from your supervising consultant confirming that you are part of an exchange programme and the start and end dates of the post.
 
Teaching post
You may work in a teaching appointment for a university, dental school or hospital. Applications for teaching posts are considered on an individual basis. In order for the Council to assess teaching posts, you will need to submit a detailed job description which must include any clinical duties you are required to undertake and the level of supervision you will receive.
 
Research post
You may work in a research position for a dental school or hospital.  Applications for research posts are considered on an individual basis.  In order for the Council to consider an application a research post, you must submit a detailed job description which details of the nature of the clinical duties you would be required to undertake and the level of supervision you will receive.
 

Finding Employment

We cannot arrange employment and we do not keep information of available posts.  Please note that availability of posts described is very limited. There is also a high volume of applications for any vacancies so you should be aware that eligibility for temporary registration does NOT guarantee you employment.
 
Advice on employment matters in the UK can be obtained from the NACPDE. You will find a small number of vacancies for the type of posts listed on this page advertised in the British Dental Journal or from the British Dental Association.
