Act now, shape tomorrow: Strategic shifts in dental care

Andrew Dickenson is Chief Dental Officer for Wales and Deputy Director at the Welsh Government, where he leads national strategy on dental policy, workforce reform, and digital transformation. A dual-qualified surgeon and educator with over 36 years’ experience, he has held senior leadership roles across the NHS, higher education, and national bodies. 

He has pioneered primary care contract reform in Wales, championed digital innovation in service delivery, and advised Ministers on system sustainability and health equity. Alongside his government role, he is Visiting Professor at the Universities of Chester and Coventry and serves on the boards of national health organisations and charities. 

Widely published and an invited keynote speaker, Andrew is recognised for advancing inclusive healthcare, mentoring future leaders, and embedding compassionate, evidence-based leadership in policy and practice.
