The Framework for Professionalism

**This page has been produced for the purposes of consultation, it does not represent the final published version. The current Standards for the dental team (effective from 30 September 2013) remain available on the live site here**

This Framework provides the GDC’s guidance to registered dental professionals on the standards of conduct, performance, and practice they are expected to uphold.

It sets out, in general terms, how we expect dental professionals to behave and outlines what the public should expect from those providing their oral healthcare.

In our strategy Trusted and Effective: A Strategy for Dental Regulation 2026–2028, we commit to regulating in a way that promotes learning rather than fear, supporting dental professionals to act in patients’ best interests through clear, accessible guidance and effective upstream approaches that encourage professionalism and good practice. The Framework replaces the current standards with principle-based guidance that empowers professionals to use their judgement, supports continuous development, and helps create an environment where high-quality care and public confidence can flourish.
