GDC to recruit new Council members in 2025
Lord Toby Harris will complete his four-year term as Chair, while Sheila Kumar and Anne Heal will conclude their terms as Council members. All three will remain in their positions until September 2025, ensuring continuity of leadership over the next 10 months.
Our recruitment campaign will start in early 2025, and we will welcome applications from candidates with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. The two Council roles will be available for lay members and the Chair’s role will be advertised for lay people or dental professionals.
Lord Toby Harris commented on the significant progress made during his tenure so far: "The GDC has made substantial strides since I became Chair in October 2021. We've seen continued improvement in performance and maintained sustainable finances - including a 10% reduction in the Annual Retention Fee in 2024.”
“I’m conscious of the fact that my Parliamentary and political commitments are growing following the change in Government, and it was only after a lot of consideration that I decided not to seek a further term as Chair of the GDC. I remain fully committed to my role as Chair over the next 10 months."
Council members play an important role in setting the GDC’s strategy and ensuring that we deliver on our responsibilities. Being a member of the GDC Council is an opportunity to build experience and skills and get more involved in the regulation of the whole dental team.
