New Chair of Audit and Risk Committee announced as recruitment for lay Council member continues
We are pleased to confirm that Sheila Kumar has been appointed as the new Chair of the GDC’s Audit and Risk Committee (ARC). The role of the ARC is to monitor the integrity of financial statements, and to review the GDC’s governance and risk management systems and internal and external audit services.
A lay member of Council, Sheila is also the Chief Executive of the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC), an independent specialist regulator of conveyancing and probate lawyers. Prior to joining the CLC, Sheila was Group Director of Regulation at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, leading the development of the Equality and Human Rights Commission as a modern regulatory body.
Recruiting a new lay member to the GDC Council
Sheila replaces Crispin Passmore as Chair of ARC. Crispin is leaving the GDC Council at the end of 2021, to focus on his other commitments.
This creates a vacancy on the GDC Council for a lay member and we are currently recruiting for a replacement. To support this activity, Sheila and fellow lay Council member Laura Simons have produced a short video where they explain their motivations for joining the GDC Council and why they would encourage others to consider applying.
We are looking for applicants who can contribute to setting strategy, exercising oversight and ensuring effective corporate governance, with a demonstrable commitment to supporting confidence in public services and patient safety. Recent non-executive experience, gained within a regulator or regulated sector, together with a strong commercial background and the ability to understand organisational finances, policies and processes and performance management at a strategic level, would also be beneficial.
Full details about how to apply are available on the recruitment website.
The application window closes on 22 November 2021.
