The GDC commissioned in depth qualitative research project to understand the circumstances leading dental professionals registered with the GDC to decide whether to raise a concern or not. The GDC Standards for the Dental Team, published in 2013, includes nine principles that dental professionals must adhere to at all times. One of these principles is ‘raise concerns if patients are at risk. This research builds upon the findings from the 2013 Registrant Survey about raising concerns and informs the GDC’s response to the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry (the Francis Report). The research was carried out with a sample of dentists and dental professionals in October and November 2014.
