GDC to recruit new Registrant Council Member in 2026
We will appoint a Registrant Council Member to join our governing body, as Simon Morrow is set to conclude his term, with the successful candidate expected to take office on 1 October 2026.
The successful candidate will join the Council of 12 members, comprising six lay members and six registered dental professionals, led by our Chair Dr Helen Phillips.
They will be expected to commit approximately 20 to 25 days per year to preparing for and attending meetings, with an annual remuneration of £15,000. The initial term for appointment to the Council will be no longer than four years.
Dr Helen Phillips, Chair of the GDC, said:
"This is an exciting time to join the GDC Council as we work to deliver our new Corporate Strategy 2026 to 2028, which sets out our vision to be a trusted and effective regulator, supporting dental professionals to provide safe and effective care for their patients.
"What we do matters. If you are a registered dental professional with the passion and breadth of view to help shape the future of dental regulation, we would love to hear from you."
Only candidates currently registered with the GDC are eligible to apply for this Registrant Council Member position. Applications from registrants living and working across all four nations of the UK are welcome.
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to public protection, an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, and experience working within a statutory framework. They should be able to challenge constructively, work collaboratively, and hold the executive to account for delivery of the corporate strategy.
The closing date for applications is midday on Friday, 6 February 2026. Preliminary interviews will take place between March and April 2026, with final interviews scheduled for June 2026.
We are conducting the recruitment process with support from executive search firm Saxton Bampfylde, following guidance issued by the Professional Standards Authority. The appointment will be made by the Privy Council.
