Monitoring

We monitor education programmes for three main reasons:

  • To identify any new risks or issues that may impact upon successful programme delivery, against the Standards, both in the case of individual training providers and across the wider sector

  • To review progress against actions from previous inspections

  • To determine inspection activity for the following academic year.

We carry out several types of monitoring, such as:

General monitoring: An annual quality assurance review of a programme to ensure ongoing compliance with the Standards for Education. The information is used to identify any significant risks faced by a programme and decide whether additional education quality assurance activity is required.

Additional monitoring: This is carried out where an outcome cannot be decided upon through general monitoring activity only, or where a concern has been raised about a programme by a third party.

Progress monitoring: This is carried out as follows:

  • To check in with new or modified programmes
  • To follow up the progress of inspection actions
  • To check in with inactive approved programmes.
