CPD cycles spanning both schemes

Unless you started your CPD cycle during or after 2018, you will be currently completing a CPD cycle that spans both of the current CPD schemes. We normally refer to this as being in transition. We will have dental professionals transitioning to the Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018 until 31 July 2022.

For those in transition a pro rata approach has been applied to the number of hours of CPD you will need to compete over your five-year CPD cycle.

Your personalised CPD requirements can be found on your eGDC account. Once your current cycle ends, the CPD requirements for your next cycle will be subject to the rules of the  Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018.

Frequently asked questions

All registrants have now moved to the Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018. The Scheme began on 1 January 2018 for dentists and 1 August 2018 for DCPs.

Therefore, unless you started a new CPD cycle in 2018, or later, your CPD cycle will span both the Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018 and the CPD Scheme 2008-2017 until the end of your cycle. All dental professionals will be transitioned to the Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018 by 31 July 2022.

A pro rata approach has been applied to the amount of CPD you will need to complete. Your personalised CPD requirements can be found on your eGDC account. Once your current cycle ends, the CPD requirements for your next cycle will be subject to the rules of the Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018.
There is no requirement to inform the GDC of any non-verifiable CPD completed under the Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018.

However, if your current CPD cycle is spanning both schemes you will be required to declare a pro rata amount of non-verifiable CPD, for the years that were subject to the CPD Scheme 2008-2018

Please also note that your eGDC account will include personalised information on the number of CPD hours you will need to complete during your current CPD cycle.
