Jane McLeod
Jane McLeod took early retirement from the post of Deputy Solicitor to the Scottish Government in 2012, having worked in a variety of government legal posts for nearly 30 years. Her legal career began in private practice and, after a brief spell in local government, she joined the Scottish Office in 1983. During her lengthy Civil Service career, Jane was involved in the provision of legal services in a wide range of policy areas; latterly her responsibilities covered constitutional and civil law, criminal justice, health and community care and litigation. Jane was Chief Executive of the Scottish Law Commission from 2000 - 2005, and in 2009 she was instrumental in setting up the Pro Bono Network for government lawyers in Scotland. Jane was also one of the founding trustees and directors of LawWorks Scotland, a charity that seeks to promote and facilitate the provision of free legal services throughout Scotland
