Registering the dental team

If you are a dental professional, by law, you need to register with us to work in the UK.

We register you to protect the public.

We hold registers for:

  • dentists
  • dental care professionals (clinical dental technicians, dental nurses, dental hygienists, dental technicians, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists)
Registering dental nurses and dental technicians

Registration for dental nurses and dental technicians will be compulsory from 30 July 2008. If you are a dental nurse or dental technician, register now.

After 30 July 2008, it will be illegal to use the titles “dental nurse” or “dental technician” without being registered with the GDC.

If you don’t hold a formal qualification and want to apply on the basis of your experience, you must register before 30 July 2008. After that, the only way to register will be with a qualification.

What do I do now?

Follow our step by step guide to registering with the GDC.
