Processing times for applications
Applications for registration are dealt with in date order. The GDC will contact you in writing with the status of your application. The current processing times for applications are given below and are subject to change. While GDC aims to process all applications within this time, if your application is incorrect or incomplete it may take longer to process your application.

Application for first registration as a dentist (recognised UK / EEA / overseas qualifications), UK qualified hygienists, therapists, clinical dental technicians and orthodontic therapists: |
1 - 4 weeks |

Application for restoration as a dentist or dental care professional: |
14 working days |

Applications for dental nurses and dental technicians: |
2 - 3 weeks |

Application for first, renewal and restoration of temporary registration for pre-approved posts: |
4 - 6 weeks |

Application for entry onto a Specialist List without assessment: |
4 - 6 weeks |

Application for first registration as a dentist under sections 16 (2A) and 16 (2B) of the Dentists Act: |
maximum of three months from the date of a complete application |

Application for registration as a dental care professional (EEA): |
maximum of four months from the date of a complete application |

Application for first, renewal and restoration of temporary registration for posts which have not been approved: |
4 - 6 weeks |

Application for entry onto a Specialist List via assessment, including applications for entry to the Special Care Dentistry List under transitional arrangements: |
maximum of three months from the date of a complete application; four months for those applying under paragraph 11 and applications for entry to the Special Care Dentistry List under transitional arrangements |

Appointments
Appointments with the Registration Team will only be given in limited circumstances. Appointments will only be made where an application is already being considered by the GDC. Unfortunately, we are unable to make appointments on the day an application is dropped off to the Council.
