Our current reforms

By law, all dentists, dental hygienists and dental therapists have to register with us to practise in the UK. On 31 July 2006, we also began registering four additional groups of dental care professionals (DCPs): 
  • dental nurses
  • dental technicians
  • clinical dental technicians, and
  • orthodontic therapists. 


    This means that these Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) will be trained, qualified and statutorily registered with us. The aim of this is to provide better standards of care for patients, as well as better career pathways for these professionals.
