Title
Public protection and independence key to future healthcare regulation
Press Release Date:
128509632000000000 Wednesday, March 26, 2008

All healthcare regulators should continue to emphasise the public protection focus of their work, says the GDC in its response to the Department of Health’s consultation on the Health Care and Associated Professions (Miscellaneous Amendments) No 2 Order.

Continued independence of healthcare regulators from the Government, employers and health professionals themselves, including the bodies that represent them, is also crucial says the GDC, responding to the draft legislation, which proposes a fully appointed, newly constituted Council.

To ensure its continued independence, the GDC has recommended that appointments to its Council are made by an independent body, to be specified by the GDC.

You can read the Council’s full response to the consultation on this website.
