Commenting on the publication of the Department of Health consultation, Health Care and Associated Professions (Miscellaneous Amendments) No 2 Order 2008, GDC President Hew Mathewson said:
“As far back as March 2007 we agreed that our Council should have greater patient and public representation and that all members (dental and lay) should be appointed, rather than elected. The publication today of the draft legislation is a long awaited step towards making these changes happen.
Effective healthcare regulation has to be a partnership between patients and professionals, and we’re looking forward to greater involvement from the public in our work at every level.
We will be considering the consultation document in more detail and submitting our comments to the Department of Health.”
