We have recently written to all registrants (dentists and dental care professionals) asking for your help in encouring the dental technicians and dental nurses you work with to register with us before the legal deadline.
As you know, from 30 July 2008, the entire clinical dental team must be registered with the GDC. Registration is not optional, after July 2008 it will be a legal requirement for all dental technicians and dental nurses to be registered with the GDC.
Although July 2008 sounds a long way off, it is in your colleagues' interests to apply sooner rather than later, as the registration fee is set to rise in January 2008 - from £72 to £96. The lower fee, which covers registrants until July 2009, is guaranteed to the end of this year.
We are here to help. We have made the process of applying as straightforward, efficient and quick as we possibly can. In particular, we have simplified and streamlined application forms so that they are more user-friendly and easier to fill in.
You can find application forms and more information about DCP registration on this website.
Are the dental technicians you work with registered yet?
If you are not sure whether a dental technician from whom you commission work is registered, you may wish to write to them, to remind them that they must register and to inform them that if they do not, you will not be able to commission them for work after July 2008. We have produced a template for such a letter (see below) for you to send to dental technicians.
