Wakkas Khan (dentist)
Dental surgeon Wakkas Khan qualified from the University of Manchester in 2004, and completed his vocational training in the North Western Deanery the following year.
He currently works in general practice in Cheshire and previously he was involved in other aspects of healthcare through his role as a governor of Manchester’s Christie Hospital.
Wakkas is also involved in education as a member of the general assembly of the University of Manchester and as a community governor of St Chrysostom’s Primary School. Wakkas is currently a mentor on the Princes Charities Young Offenders Mentoring Programme and was previously a mentor on Common Purpose’s About Time initiative. Wakkas is also a trustee of the Manchester Youth Foundation.
Wakkas has represented the United Kingdom on a number of delegations abroad organised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. His other interests include community cohesion and Wakkas was previously an advisor to government in his role as a member of the Faith Advisory Panel of Experts to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
In 2010 Wakkas was awarded the Alija Izetbegovic Award for Excellence in Citizenship. Wakkas is a keen sportsman and manages to get to Old Trafford a couple of times a season to watch Manchester United.
