Carol Varlaam (lay)
Carol Varlaam is currently a trustee on the St. George’s Hospital Charity and on the Wandsworth Care Alliance.
She has already served one term on the outgoing Council of the GDC.
Her NHS experience includes serving as chair of the Merton Sutton Wandsworth Health Authority from 2000–2002, non-executive director and deputy chair of NHS Professionals Special Health Authority 2004–2007, and non-executive director and vice chair of the Southwest London Strategic Health Authority 2002-2006.
From 1990 to 2000, she was head of corporate human resource planning at the BBC, leading a team on strategic workforce issues, including forecasting skill requirements.
Earlier in her career, she completed a PhD at the University of London on "The Origins and Development of the General Medical Council" and lectured for some years on health and social policy issues.
