Dentists whose CPD cycle ended on 31 December 2007 had until 29 February 2008 to confirm to us that they had completed 250 hours of CPD with at least 75 hours being verifiable. On 13 March 2008 we wrote to dentists in this cycle whose declarations showed they had not complied with the CPD requirements, informing them of the options open to them to avoid removal from the Dentists Register.
The options are:
1. Provide documentary evidence of compliance with CPD requirements
Dentists who did comply with the CPD requirements between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2007, but did not make sufficient declarations, need to provide copies of certificates (or other documentary evidence) confirming the completion of at least 75 hours of verifiable CPD. Confirmation of the remaining 175 hours of CPD must also be provided as either further certificates confirming verifiable hours, a copy of their log of general hours, or a combination of both.
Or
2. Final opportunity for compliance - apply for grace period
Dentists can return the application form at the end of the letter from us, or apply in writing via email or letter, for a six month grace period to complete the remaining hours of CPD needed to comply with the requirements. When they have completed the necessary hours they need to send in documentary evidence confirming this.
Dentists who have not complied with the CPD requirements must exercise one of these options by 10 April 2008 or their name may be removed from the Register.
