GDC issues statement on implant dentistry

Educational providers and dental practitioners who wish to practise implant dentistry should refer to the Training Standards in Implant Dentistry for General Dental Practitioners, published by the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK), says the GDC.

ARF collection 2007

In 2007 seeking to improve our service the General Dental Council changed the company used to collect the ARF. This was not completely successful and a number of mistakes have come to light. While these were being investigated, a decision was made to defer the removal of individuals from the Register for non-payment of the ARF. 

End of CPD cycle - non-compliance

Date: 14 March 2008

On 13 March 2008 we wrote to dentists who had come to the end of their first CPD cycle and whose declarations showed they had not complied with the CPD requirements.  The letter informed them of the options open to them to avoid removal from the Dentists Register.

Practice of dentistry

Date: 26 February 2008

The Dentists Act 1984 (the Act) defines the practice of dentistry as ‘the performance of any such operation and the giving of any such treatment and advice or attendance as is usually performed or given by dentists’. Prior to 2005, the Act allowed both registered dentists and registered medical practitioners to practise dentistry.  Following a judgement  of the European Court of Justice that this was incompatible with the European directives , the Dentists Act was amended.
