Specialists list Annual Retention Fee

From next year, if your name is entered in a specialist list, you will be due to pay a specialist annual retention fee in addition to your dentist annual retention fee.

Each specialist list will have its own retention fee, so if your name is entered in two lists, you will pay two specialist retention fees: one for each list.

Council set the specialist retention fee for 2008 at £52. This fee is a stand alone fee per list. If your name is entered in more than one list you can choose whether to retain your name in each list independently.

Example

A dentist is entered in both the Orthodontic and Oral Surgery lists. The annual retention fees for 2008 would be:

Dentist ARF =  £438

Orthodontic ARF =  £52

Oral Surgery ARF =  £52

If that dentist wished to remain entered in both lists, the total ARF would be £542.

Our role is to protect the public. We offer the Specialist Lists as a service to the public, to help the public identify dentists with specialist skills. We appreciate that new fees are never good news, but we hope you will understand that offering a Specialist List service has costs associated with it.

After careful consideration we are introducing these fees to cover the administrative burden of maintaining the Lists and providing both a telephone and e-mail enquiry service for the many enquiries from the public about dental specialists.

If you pay by direct debit you will be able to tell us before we claim the annual retention fee whether you wish to retain some or all of your specialties.
