David is currently Deputy Secretary of NILGOSC, the Northern Ireland Local Government Pension Scheme. Previously he held positions with Methodist College, Grant Thornton, and Queen's University Belfast. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

David was appointed as a Lay Chairman of an Independent Review Panel for the Eastern Health and Social Services Board (EHSSB) in 1996 and as a Lay Advisor to the EHSSB's Governance and Audit Committee in 2004.

David is also a Board member of BIH Housing Association, the Chairman of its Finance Committee and a director of BH Property limited.
