Rosemary Melling
Rosemary Melling's early jobs were in teaching (both in England and in the US), with forays into counselling, publishing and curriculum development. She was an education officer with the BBC and one of Her Majesty's Inspectors for schools and colleges, with particular interest in students with learning difficulties and disabilities. She then worked as Director of Management and Vocational Development in the NHS Training Directorate, before setting up HM Magistrates Courts Service Inspectorate in 1993 as the first Chief Inspector.
Following her retirement from the Inspectorate, Rosemary worked for the House of Commons as Clerk/Adviser to the European Scrutiny Committee.
Rosemary has written two books: Students at Risk and Beyond Coping: some approaches to social education. She was appointed CBE in 1998.
