Nicholas Young

Colonel Nicholas Young graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1978.  An SHO year in Oral Surgery was precursor to two years in mixed general dental practice.

Joining the Royal Army Dental Corps in 1982 gave Nicholas opportunities to practise abroad for several years. He has served with the US Army in Texas, in Germany, with the United Nations in Cyprus and in Brunei as Chief Dental Officer to HM Sultan's Armed Forces.  He has extensive experience of primary dental care in both peacetime and on military operations, including humanitarian dental care to refugees in Kosovo.  His immediate previous appointment was as Director Primary Dental Services for Germany where he was responsible for service delivery of dental care to 55,000 British personnel and their families in Germany.

He has an FGDP Diploma in Dental Practice Assessment, MGDSRCS and is a Fellow of the FGDP.

A recent achievement was to be selected as an examiner for the Overseas Registration Examination. He has recently gained an MBA in Strategic Health Management and is a member of the Institute of Healthcare Management.

Nicholas has occupied his present appointment as the Defence Postgraduate Dental Dean for HM Forces for the past year.
