Tony Mellor

Tony Mellor qualified from Guy’s Hospital in 1975.  After a short spell in general dental practice in Plymouth, he returned to hospital dentistry to prepare for the Fellowship in Dental Surgery, which he gained in 1979.  He then returned to general dental practice, working in practices in Bristol and Bath before starting his own practice just outside Gloucester.  In 1985, he moved to the University of Manchester to work as a Clinical Research Fellow in the Dental Health Services Research Unit and was awarded his PhD in 1989.  He was awarded the Diploma in Conscious Sedation from the University of Newcastle in 2004.

He is now Senior Lecturer in Primary Dental Care at the University of Manchester.  His main clinical interests are the diagnosis and management of patients in pain and also patients with severe dental anxiety or phobia.   He is also the Senior Tutor for Undergraduate Dental Studies, with responsibility for admissions, recruitment and the pastoral care of the students. 

Tony is married with two children and is an active member of his local Catholic church.  He enjoys music, theatre, golf and walking in the beautiful countryside of the Peak District, Lake District and North Wales.
