General Dental Council
The Council is made up of 24 members and a Chair. These members were appointed from 1 October 2009 following changes implemented from the White Paper: Trust, Assurance and Safety.
Twelve are members of the public (lay members) and twelve are registrant members. All members were appointed by the Appointments Commission.
Alison Lockyer, Chair of the Council
Dentist Alison Lockyer has been a member of the General Dental Council since 1 October 2001. She was elected Chair in December 2009 and took office on the 1 January 2010.
Council is supported by a staff team of around 150, headed up by Interim Chief Executive and Registrar, Alison White and the Executive Management Team.
